Pinakin Patel, one of India’s well renowned architects
has launched his signature furniture store ‘PINAKIN’,
which offers an extensive range of designer furniture and
collectibles especially designed for contemporary living.
Located at Raghuvanshi Mills, Lower Parel, the new store
is a metaphor for contemporary lifestyle, combining new
age effervescence with a sophisticated intricacy of style
and design. The 6,000 sq ft. showroom which showcases
complete home fashion themes and concepts for living rooms,
bedrooms, and dining areas will be headed by Pinakin Patel’s
protégé and second generation business partner,
Mohak Mehta, who felt the need for this venture and inspired
Pinakin to come out of his reclusion in Alibag and make
a huge comeback in the city.
‘PINAKIN’ is designed in black granite to
create a seamless reflective floor with mouth watering
chocolate brown walls to add to the pizzazz. A large space
at one level becomes visually cluttered as almost all
the furniture pieces are at one height, so a raised platform
in golden Jaisalmer has been made in the center of the
showroom. Some neutral charcoal walls and textured oiled
teaks bring in the control over the black and gold from
running away to Dubai!
‘Simultaneous’, the first collection of furniture
introduced at ‘PINAKIN’, is based on the fact
that as Indians, opposite to our western counterparts,
we do things simultaneously not sequentially. We all get
together and talk at the same time; we interrupt each
other, but understand each other. A stranger would find
our markets overwhelming in their profusion of sights
smells and noises, and yet an Indian can identify what
he needs from that confusion in one second! So ‘Simultaneous’
offer the buyer many different cultures and experiences
tightly held within a sensibility that is essentially
Indian.
The furniture has straight lines, smooth curves and is
very sensuous. It is made from various Indian woods such
as Burma Teak, Rose Wood and Rubber Wood, in addition
to some popular western materials such as Californian
Walnut, American Oak and Ebony. Special German hardware
for concealed channels and self-pulling hinges have been
used in the furniture making process.
It offers sets of furniture pieces that come from a broader
bandwidth to be used in thematic groups or mixed and matched
for a personal statement.
The exquisite range of furniture includes sofas; profile
chairs; center tables; dining tables; dining chairs and
beds amongst others.
Besides residential furniture items PINAKIN will also
display collectibles in the form of art, artifacts and
carpets to delight one’s senses.
